Location: Onsite in Northridge, CA
Pay Scale: $100/hr – $120/hr
Duration: Long-Term/Ongoing Contract (yearly extensions and FTE conversion possible)

Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanisms Engineer to support the design, development, testing, and qualification of precision mechanisms for space-based optical and mechatronic systems. The ideal candidate will have strong mechanical engineering fundamentals, hands-on experience with spaceflight hardware, and a track record of solving complex design challenges involving structural, thermal, and manufacturing considerations.
You will work within a cross-functional team of mechanical, thermal, structural analysis, and manufacturing engineers, delivering high-performance assemblies optimized for both precision and manufacturability.
Responsibilities:

Research and analyze design concepts to develop feasible mechanical solutions.

Utilize CAD and CAE tools to design and improve complex mechanical and electromechanical devices.

Develop, execute, and refine test procedures for performance validation and qualification.

Support prototype fabrication, hands-on testing, and space qualification of new mechanisms.

Provide manufacturing support, documentation, and ensure adherence to design specifications.

Troubleshoot issues during design, build, and operational phases to identify root causes and corrective actions.

Participate in design reviews and serve as a technical point of contact for mechanical systems.
Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (preferred) or related STEM discipline.

5+ years of experience as a mechanical design engineer.

Demonstrated experience in at least one of the following areas:

Space systems
-
Free-space optical systems
-
Precision mechanisms
-

Hands-on experience executing space qualification of novel mechanisms.

Proficiency in CAD (5+ years), including NX / TeamCenter (1+ year).

Strong drafting skills and familiarity with GD&T standards.

U.S. Citizenship or lawful permanent residency required under export control regulations.
Preferred Skills:
-
10+ years of mechanical design experience.

Experience designing laser optical communication systems or precision space mechanisms.

Experience building and testing optical systems in lab or clean room (Class 100K) environments.

Strong analytical, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.
