Title: Product Owner
Location: Remote (EST)
Duration: 6-month contract to start
Compensation: $55-60/hour

Product Owner
We are seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Product Owner to drive the success of our agile product delivery process. The ideal candidate will act as the voice of the customer, guiding cross-functional teams through feature development while ensuring alignment with business objectives. This role involves backlog ownership, active participation across the agile lifecycle, and close coordination with stakeholders to deliver high-impact product solutions.
Responsibilities:
- Strategic Product Vision – Ensure the product backlog aligns with the overall vision and strategic business goals.
- Portfolio Management – Prioritize user stories and initiatives based on business value and feasibility.
- Customer & Market Insights – Gather and communicate feedback from the business to inform product decisions.
- Product Strategy Execution – Guide the team on what to build, translating strategic goals into tactical execution.
- Backlog Ownership – Own and manage the product backlog. Write and refine user stories, adding detailed acceptance criteria. Ensure stories are complete, clear, and ready for development.
Agile Delivery Lifecycle Responsibilities
- Requirements Gathering – Interface with the mortgage operations, gather and document requirements, and offer solutions to business needs.
- Backlog Grooming / Refinement – Maintain and prioritize the backlog. Continuously write, refine, and enhance user stories with clear acceptance criteria.
- Sprint Planning – Select and explain user stories for upcoming sprints. Clarify feature requirements to ensure team alignment before development begins.
- Sprint Execution – Actively engage with the development team during daily standups and throughout the sprint. Accept completed stories that meet acceptance criteria and the Definition of Done.
- Sprint Review & Demo – Lead sprint demos and present completed features to stakeholders. Gather feedback to iterate on features and inform future work.
- Release Planning & Management – Confirm story completion and readiness for release. Coordinate final deliverables, including QA validation, documentation, and release notes.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Stakeholder Management – Serve as the central liaison between Dev, QA, UAT, and business stakeholders.
- Team Alignment & Enablement – Ensure sprint goals and work output align with evolving products and business priorities.
- Business Case & ROI Evaluation – Support prioritization and roadmap decisions with input rooted in value and business impact.
- Release Planning – Coordinate development, testing, and UAT efforts to ensure timely, high-quality releases.
- Agile Process Ownership – Operate effectively within Agile frameworks such as Scrum or Kanban. Facilitate Agile ceremonies and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
- KPIs & Metrics – Track and analyze team delivery metrics (velocity, burndown charts, etc.) to assess progress and optimize performance.
- Leadership & Mentorship – Mentor junior business analysts and new Product Owners. Promote a culture of collaboration, continuous learning, and Agile best practices.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Computer Science, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3+ years of experience as a Product Owner or related role in an Agile environment.
- Proven ability to manage backlogs, write detailed user stories, and collaborate with cross-functional teams.
- Strong understanding of Agile principles, delivery metrics, and stakeholder management.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
- Experience with Agile tools such as Jira, Confluence, Azure DevOps, or equivalent.
