Description:

Job Summary / Purpose:
The Materials Buyer & Expeditor manages the procurement and delivery of materials, spare parts, and MRO items to support uninterrupted operations. This role emphasizes order execution, lead time awareness, delivery risk management, and issue resolution to maintain material availability.
The position is limited to material procurement only and excludes services purchasing, supplier ownership, contract negotiations, sourcing activities, or field execution. Proficiency in SAP is required.

Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Materials Buying

  • Execute material, spare part, and MRO purchases using approved contracts and sourcing strategies.
  • Create and manage purchase orders in SAP, ensuring accuracy in pricing, quantities, delivery terms, and lead times.
  • Validate material requirements and align purchase activity with operational demand.

2. Expediting & Delivery Management

  • Proactively track and expedite open purchase orders to meet required delivery dates.
  • Identify potential delivery risks and implement corrective actions to prevent shortages or delays.
  • Coordinate with suppliers, logistics providers, warehouses, and internal teams to resolve delivery issues.
  • Monitor key risk factors including supplier capacity, manufacturing lead times, transportation constraints, and demand changes.

3. Issue Identification & Resolution

  • Analyze material shortages or delays to determine root causes and drive resolution.
  • Collaborate with planning, maintenance, warehouse, and logistics teams to reprioritize and adjust delivery plans.
  • Escalate material risks as needed and track mitigation actions through closure.

4. Compliance & Controls

  • Ensure all purchasing activity complies with approved procurement processes and contracts.
  • Maintain accurate procurement documentation in line with record retention requirements.
  • Adhere to ethical standards and conflict-of-interest policies.

5. Status Updates & Communication

  • Provide timely updates on order status, expediting efforts, and delivery risks.
  • Communicate recovery plans and supply changes to key stakeholders.
  • Support short-term reporting related to open and overdue material orders.

Minimum Requirements:
Education

  • High school diploma required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in supply chain or related field preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in materials purchasing and expediting within oil & gas or a comparable industrial or asset-intensive environment.

Skills & Competencies

  • Required experience with SAP materials purchasing processes, including purchase orders, outline agreements, source lists, and info records.
  • Strong understanding of lead times, delivery commitments, and material constraints.
  • Proven problem-solving ability with a results-driven approach.
  • Clear communication skills and consistent follow-through.
