Pay Range: $80–$91.25/hr

Overview

This opportunity supports a large, globally recognized media and entertainment organization known for producing world-class live-action and animated content across film, digital, music, and live experiences.

The role sits within a centralized Studio Technology organization, partnering closely with creative and business teams to deliver scalable, high-impact technical solutions. As a Backend Software Engineer on the Title Planning team, you will take ownership of medium-to-large backend features from initial design through production deployment, contributing to systems that support content planning and studio operations at scale.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and deploy scalable backend microservices using Java/Kotlin and Spring Boot

  • Own features end-to-end, including API contract definition and database schema design (SQL and/or NoSQL)

  • Build and maintain RESTful APIs within a microservices-based architecture

  • Enhance CI/CD pipelines to improve deployment velocity, reliability, and system quality

  • Implement observability solutions (metrics, logging, tracing) to ensure operational health and enable rapid production troubleshooting

  • Use Docker to support local development and service orchestration

  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to coding standards and engineering best practices

  • Collaborate closely with Product, Design, and cross-functional engineering teams

Required Technical Skills & Experience

  • 4+ years of professional backend software development experience

  • Strong proficiency in Java or Kotlin, with hands-on experience using Spring Boot

  • Proven experience designing and consuming RESTful APIs in a microservices environment

  • Experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and at least one major cloud platform (AWS, Azure, or GCP)

  • Solid experience with SQL and at least one NoSQL database (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra)

Required Soft Skills & Methodologies

  • Strong cross-functional collaboration and communication skills

  • Ability to break down complex technical problems and clearly articulate trade-offs

  • Experience owning or leading small-to-medium feature efforts within an Agile team

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with distributed systems and event-driven architectures

  • Background building internal frameworks, shared libraries, or platform services

  • Familiarity with Domain-Driven Design (DDD) or hexagonal architecture

  • Experience working in modern monorepo environments

  • Exposure to frontend API integration using React (preferred), Vue, or Angular

  • Working knowledge of TypeScript for defining client-side models and interfaces

  • Familiarity with state management patterns (React Query, Redux, Zustand) and API considerations such as caching and invalidation

Education

  • BA/BS in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field
