Role Summary
The Snowflake Data Architect will design and implement the cloud data platform that powers executive financial, operational, commercial, and safety dashboards. This role sits at the intersection of technology and business, working closely with Finance, Operations, HSE, and Commercial stakeholders across North America and Europe.
Primary domains include financial performance (Net Revenue, EBITDA, Cash Flow), production and capacity, safety (TRIR), operational KPIs, commercial/market prices, and HSE data. SAP BPC and SAP S/4HANA will be key source systems, but prior experience with these specific systems is not mandatory.
This is a hybrid contract role requiring 3 days per week in the office and regular collaboration with European teams, including some overlapping working hours with Central European Time.
Key Responsibilities
Data Architecture & Modeling

  • Design and own the end to end Snowflake data architecture for executive dashboards and analytics in support of Project RISE.
  • Develop scalable dimensional and/or data vault models for financial, operational, safety, and commercial domains (P&L, production, capacity, TRIR, HSE indicators, market prices).
  • Define conformed dimensions and standardized metrics to ensure a single version of the truth across Finance, Operations, HSE, and Commercial reporting.
  • Maintain and document data modeling standards, naming conventions, and business glossaries.

Data Integration & Pipelines

  • Design, build, and optimize ingestion and transformation pipelines into Snowflake using modern ELT/ETL tools (e.g., DBT, or similar).
  • Integrate data from SAP BPC, SAP S/4HANA, and other internal/external sources (market data providers, operational systems, safety/HSE systems).
  • Implement incremental loads, change data capture, and performance tuning for large scale financial and operational datasets.
  • Work with platform and infrastructure teams to ensure reliability, observability, and cost effective use of Snowflake.

Data Governance, Quality & Security

  • Define and enforce data quality rules and validation processes for key metrics (Net Revenue, EBITDA, Cash Flow, Production, TRIR, etc.).
  • Implement role based access control, data masking, and security best practices in Snowflake, particularly for sensitive financial and personnel data.
  • Partner with data owners and stewards to agree on data definitions, business rules, and metadata.

Business Partnership & Requirements

  • Engage directly with Finance, Operations, HSE, Commercial, and European counterparts to understand reporting needs, define KPIs, and translate business questions into data models and pipelines.
  • Challenge, refine, and prioritize business requirements to ensure they are measurable, consistent, and technically feasible.
  • Provide guidance to Power BI developers and analysts on optimal use of Snowflake structures, including semantic layer design and performance considerations.
  • Communicate complex technical concepts in clear, non technical language to executive and business stakeholders in different regions.

Collaboration & Ways of Working

  • Work effectively in a hybrid environment, being onsite 3 days per week for key workshops, design sessions, and stakeholder meetings.
  • Coordinate closely with European teams; adjust working hours as needed to ensure regular overlap with CET for joint design sessions and issue resolution.
  • Contribute to cross functional Agile or iterative delivery ceremonies (stand ups, sprint reviews, backlog grooming).

Qualifications
Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 7+ years of experience in data engineering, BI, or analytics; 3+ years focused on modern cloud data warehousing.
  • Hands on expertise with Snowflake (or similar cloud data warehouse such as Redshift, BigQuery, Synapse), including performance tuning, security, and cost optimization.
  • Strong SQL skills and solid experience with ETL/ELT tools and pipeline orchestration.
  • Demonstrated experience designing dimensional models and/or semantic models for financial and operational reporting.
  • Solid business understanding of financials (revenue, margin, EBITDA, cash flow) and how they link to operational drivers (production, capacity utilization, pricing, safety).
  • Proven ability to collaborate with diverse business stakeholders, including finance and operations leaders, and translate requirements into robust technical designs.
  • Ability and willingness to work in a hybrid model (3 days in office) and maintain overlapping hours with European teams.

Nice to Have

  • Experience integrating data from SAP environments (e.g., SAP BPC, SAP S/4HANA, SAP BW) or similar ERP/financial planning systems.
  • Experience supporting executive level dashboards and scorecards.
  • Familiarity with Power BI and how enterprise data models are consumed for reporting.
  • Experience with DevOps/CI CD for data (Git, automated testing, deployment pipelines).
  • Prior experience in manufacturing, chemicals, industrials, or similar asset intensive industries.

Key Competencies

  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills with a focus on business outcomes.
  • Ability to balance technical rigor with practical constraints and timelines.
  • Clear, concise communicator across technical and non technical audiences and regions.
  • Collaborative, proactive, and comfortable working in a global, cross functional, project based environment.
