Title: Staff Accountant
Location: Houston, TX (Galleria area)
Duration: 1-3 months (Tentative start 4/6/2026)
Compensation: $36.00-$37.00 hourly pay
Work Requirements: US Citizen, GC Holders or Authorized to Work in the U.S.
 
Skillset / Experience: Staff Accountant
Our client is seeking a Staff Accountant for a short-term contract role supporting month-end close and reconciliation-heavy accounting activities. This position requires strong general ledger experience, advanced reconciliation skills, and the ability to pivot in a flexible, collaborative environment.
 
Key Responsibilities

• Lead month-end and year-end closing activities, ensuring timely and accurate completion
• Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and adjustments
• Perform heavy balance sheet reconciliations and proactively resolve discrepancies
• Maintain fixed asset schedules, depreciation, and capital project tracking
• Perform bank, intercompany, and account reconciliations
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and established accounting policies
• Support internal and external audit requests with documentation
• Collaborate cross-functionally with AP, AR, operations, and leadership
• Provide guidance to junior accountants and assist with complex accounting issues

Ideal Candidate Profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
• 3–5+ years of progressive accounting experience
• Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting
• Heavy reconciliations experience required
• Advanced Excel skills
• ERP experience preferred, especially Microsoft Dynamics (recent migration)
• Experience with SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, or similar systems is a plus
• Ability to pivot quickly and manage multiple priorities
