Title:  Data Governance Architect
Location: Downtown Houston, TX (Onsite 100%)
Duration: Contract
Work Requirements: US Citizen, GC Holders or Authorized to Work in the U.S. 
 
Job Summary:
The Data Governance Architect is responsible for designing, implementing, and evolving the enterprise data governance framework to ensure data is accurate, secure, compliant, and effectively used across the organization. This role bridges business, data, and technology teams to establish governance standards, policies, and architectures that support data-driven decision-making and regulatory requirements.
 
Key Responsibilities:
 
Data Governance Strategy & Architecture

  • Design and maintain the enterprise data governance architecture, including policies, standards, processes, and operating models
  • Define and implement data governance frameworks covering data quality, metadata, master data, reference data, and data lifecycle management
  • Align data governance initiatives with business strategy, enterprise architecture, and regulatory requirements

Policy, Standards & Compliance

  • Develop and enforce data governance policies, standards, and procedures across domains and systems
  • Ensure compliance with data privacy, security, and regulatory requirements (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, SOX, industry-specific regulations)
  • Partner with Legal, Risk, Compliance, and Information Security teams to address data-related risks

Data Quality & Stewardship

  • Define data quality rules, metrics, and monitoring processes
  • Establish and support data stewardship models, including roles, responsibilities, and workflows
  • Lead root cause analysis and remediation of critical data quality issues

Metadata & Lineage Management

  • Oversee implementation of metadata management, data cataloging, and business glossary solutions
  • Ensure end-to-end data lineage visibility to support impact analysis, compliance, and analytics trust

Technology & Tooling

  • Evaluate, select, and implement data governance tools and platforms
  • Collaborate with data architecture, engineering, analytics, and platform teams to embed governance into data pipelines and systems
  • Promote automation and scalable governance solutions

Stakeholder Engagement & Enablement

  • Act as a trusted advisor to business and IT stakeholders on data governance best practices
  • Facilitate governance councils, working groups, and decision forums
  • Provide training, communication, and change management to drive adoption of governance practices

Required Qualifications:
 
Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Management, or a related field
  • Master's degree preferred

Experience

  • 7+ years of experience in data management, data architecture, data governance, or related disciplines
  • Proven experience designing and implementing enterprise-level data governance programs
  • Hands-on experience with data governance, data quality, or metadata management tools

Technical & Professional Skills

  • Strong knowledge of data governance frameworks (e.g., DAMA-DMBOK)
  • Understanding of data architectures, data modeling, and analytics ecosystems
  • Experience with master data management (MDM), data quality, and metadata platforms
  • Familiarity with cloud data platforms and modern data architectures
  • Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder management skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Data governance or data management certifications (e.g., CDMP, DGSP)
  • Experience in regulated industries (financial services, healthcare, energy, etc.)
  • Experience supporting large-scale analytics, AI, or digital transformation initiatives
