Director of Accounting or Senior Accounting Manager

Reports To: Interim CFO

Position Overview

The Director of Accounting is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing accounting operations, financial close, and team performance during a period of transition. The role will initially partner with an accounting consultant, with the expectation of assuming full ownership of the function over time.

This position requires a hands-on leader with strong people management skills and experience operating in a Workday financial environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead monthly close, GL, reconciliations, and financial reporting
• Provide hands-on accounting support as needed due to current staffing gaps
• Assess the accounting team; conduct performance reviews and identify training or staffing needs
• Address underperformance and recommend organizational changes as necessary
• Maximize use of Workday and drive process improvements
• Support audits and ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable regulations
• Partner closely with CFO and cross-functional stakeholders

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business
• 8–10+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership
• Proven experience managing and developing accounting teams
• Strong GAAP and month-end close expertise
• Experience in a Workday environment (required)
• CPA preferred
• Nonprofit, education, or mission-driven experience a plus
