Title: Accounts Payable Manager
Location: Houston, Texas
Duration: Permanent position
Compensation: $110,000-$130,000 depending on experience

Skillset / Experience:
The Accounts Payable Manager is responsible for leading and optimizing the AP function within a centralized Shared Services environment. This role ensures timely and accurate processing of vendor invoices and payments, strong internal controls, regulatory compliance, and continuous process improvement across multiple business units. The AP Manager will lead a team of AP professionals, drive operational excellence, and partner cross-functionally to enhance service delivery and efficiency.

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of AP supervisors, specialists, and clerks.
  • Establish performance metrics and monitor team productivity and service levels.
  • Foster a customer-service mindset within the Shared Services model.
  • Support workforce planning, training, and succession development.

Operational Oversight

  • Oversee end-to-end accounts payable processes, including:
    • Invoice intake and processing
    • 2-way and 3-way matching
    • Payment processing (ACH, wire, check)
    • Expense reimbursements
    • Vendor onboarding and maintenance
  • Ensure timely month-end and year-end close activities related to AP.
  • Monitor aging reports and manage payment cycles to optimize working capital.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, SOX controls (if applicable), and audit requirements.

Process Improvement & Systems

  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to streamline AP workflows.
  • Leverage automation tools (OCR, ERP systems, workflow platforms).
  • Identify opportunities to reduce manual processes and enhance efficiency.
  • Participate in ERP implementations or upgrades.
  • Develop and maintain standardized procedures across business units.

Controls & Compliance

  • Maintain strong internal controls to mitigate risk and prevent fraud.
  • Ensure adherence to tax regulations (e.g., 1099 reporting).
  • Support internal and external audits by providing required documentation and analysis.
  • Monitor segregation of duties within the Shared Services model.

Stakeholder & Vendor Management

  • Serve as primary escalation point for vendor and internal stakeholder issues.
  • Partner with Procurement, Treasury, Accounting, and Business Unit leaders.
  • Drive SLA adherence and service quality improvements.
  • Maintain strong vendor relationships while enforcing payment terms.

 
Qualifications:
Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field preferred.
  • 5–8+ years of progressive accounts payable experience.
  • 2–4+ years of leadership experience, preferably in a Shared Services environment.
  • Experience supporting multi-entity or multi-location organizations.
  • ERP experience required (e.g., SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, Workday, or similar).
