Job Posting Title – Workday Senior Manager – Finance
Position Purpose
- The Workday Senior Manager reports to the Workday Director and is accountable for assessing, designing, and delivering solutions that improve the performance and strategic impact of the Workday platform. This role oversees system evaluation and analytical activities to support operational enhancements within a designated domain—such as Spend, Finance, Payroll, HCM, or Technology.
- The ideal candidate brings deep functional knowledge across both business operations and technical system capabilities, allowing them to independently architect solutions, diagnose issues, and resolve complex challenges.
- Additionally, this role includes leadership responsibility for a team, providing guidance, direction, and support to ensure the delivery of high-quality outcomes. Strong collaboration with stakeholders, including customers, peers, technical teams, and operational partners, is essential to translate business requirements into scalable and effective system solutions.
Job Requirements
- 7+ years of Workday sustainment experience, either in configuration or as an implementer, preferably with a Partner.
- 10+ years of experience in relevant business operations.
- 3+ years of leadership or management experience.
- Experience in healthcare or higher education is a plus.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree required.
- CPA (Certified Public Accountant) certification preferred.
- Workday Pro or Partner-issued Implementation certification is a plus.
- Willingness to obtain Workday Pro certification within 12 months of hire.
- Proven experience in analyzing, designing, testing, and implementing business processes, procedures, and best practices.
Job Responsibilities and Success Criteria
Product Ownership & Strategy – 10%
- Serve as a subject matter expert on complex system issues and enhancements within a Workday domain (Finance, Payroll, Technology, HCM, or Spend), supporting business users in optimizing system performance for enterprise needs.
- Success Criteria:
- Architect, build, and deploy advanced Workday technical solutions.
- Configure Workday in alignment with approved solution designs.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver effective solutions.
- Oversee and coordinate implementation efforts for Workday initiatives.
- Provide ongoing technical guidance and user support.
- Maintain awareness of new Workday features and updates.
- Contribute to the Workday community through knowledge sharing.
- Review, track, and resolve support tickets, ensuring issues are monitored through completion.
- Act as a liaison between stakeholders to gather, analyze, document, and validate requirements.
- Conduct testing for system upgrades, bug fixes, and enhancements.
- Drive ongoing process improvements across Workday modules.
- Develop business requirements documents outlining both functional and technical solutions.
- Prepare and submit change requests for approval, incorporating feedback into final designs.
- Apply strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
- Demonstrate curiosity and initiative in identifying improvement opportunities.
- Analyze and synthesize large data sets into clear, actionable insights.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Stakeholder Management – 45%
- Facilitate strong communication and collaboration with stakeholders by supporting requirement gathering, prioritization, and alignment to ensure Workday solutions meet business needs.
- Success Criteria:
- Partner with the Director as a key point of contact for stakeholders.
- Communicate updates on projects, releases, timelines, risks, and impacts to maintain alignment.
- Collect, document, and validate business requirements, translating them into scalable solutions.
- Assist in leading stakeholder meetings, prioritization discussions, and solution reviews.
- Build strong relationships with business leaders and end users to identify challenges and improvement opportunities.
- Help manage stakeholder expectations in coordination with the Director, balancing priorities with capacity and governance constraints.
- Coordinate cross-functional participation in testing, issue resolution, and release preparation.
- Prepare stakeholders for system changes through communication, documentation, and training support.
Team Operations – 45%
- Manage day-to-day team activities, ensuring work is organized, timelines are met, and processes remain consistent.
- Success Criteria:
- Support the Director in managing team operations, including scheduling, prioritization, and tracking progress.
- Mentor team members to enhance Workday knowledge through training, cross-training, and documentation.
- Assist in performance evaluations, identifying development needs and skill gaps.
- Promote consistency in team practices across analysis, testing, communication, and support processes.
