Position Overview
The Litigation Attorney is responsible for managing litigation matters from intake through resolution, including preparation for hearings, negotiations, and trial-related proceedings. This role supports operational and legal objectives through effective case management, legal analysis, and compliance oversight within assigned jurisdictions.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Review and approve newly assigned matters within designated jurisdictions while ensuring timely and consistent case progression.
- Assist leadership with oversight and management of litigation inventory, including queue monitoring and exception handling.
- Conduct document review, discovery, and case analysis.
- Prepare, review, and execute legal documents requiring attorney authorization.
- Communicate with internal leadership and business stakeholders regarding case strategy, status updates, and litigation developments.
- Support responses to litigation-related audits and compliance reviews.
- Monitor applicable laws, regulations, procedural rules, and relevant case law developments.
- Perform legal research and evaluate complex legal issues.
- Assess potential case outcomes using legal precedent, factual analysis, and litigation strategy.
- Draft, review, and file pleadings, motions, and other legal documents.
- Manage and resolve litigation matters through negotiation, settlement discussions, and courtroom proceedings when necessary.
- Work with self-represented parties, opposing counsel, and other stakeholders throughout the litigation lifecycle.
- Coordinate with and oversee outside counsel and third-party legal partners.
- Support organizational compliance with applicable laws and regulations related to consumer financial services and litigation activities.
- Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned by legal leadership.
Required Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
- Active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate cases and negotiate favorable resolutions.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Strong internet and online legal research capabilities.
- Ability to operate standard office technology and equipment.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong grammar and proofreading ability.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Ability to adapt quickly in fast-paced or time-sensitive situations.
- Professional interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively across diverse teams and backgrounds.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
- Ability to represent the organization professionally in legal and business settings.
