Title: Cost Accountant
Location: Houston, Texas
Duration: 1-2 months
Compensation: $36.00 – $38.00 per hour
Work Requirements: US Citizen, GC Holders or Authorized to Work in the U.S.
 
Skillset / Experience:

• Analyze and report on product costs, manufacturing costs, and operational expenses
• Prepare and maintain standard cost systems and update cost assumptions
• Perform variance analysis (material, labor, overhead) and communicate findings to management
• Monitor inventory transactions, reconciliations, and valuation (FIFO, LIFO, weighted average)
• Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes, including journal entries and reconciliations
• Support budgeting and forecasting processes by providing cost data and analysis
• Evaluate cost-saving opportunities and operational efficiencies
• Collaborate with operations, procurement, and finance teams to ensure accurate cost tracking
• Maintain and improve internal controls related to cost accounting processes
• Assist with audits by providing supporting documentation and explanations

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
• 2–5+ years of cost accounting or manufacturing accounting experience
• Strong understanding of cost accounting principles and inventory management
• Experience with ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, NetSuite, etc.)
• Advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP, data analysis)
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational abilities

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in manufacturing, construction, or industrial environments
• CPA, CMA, or progress toward certification
• Knowledge of GAAP and cost accounting standards
• Experience with inventory systems and cycle counting
