Automation Lead

Overview

We are seeking a hands-on Automation Lead to provide technical leadership for our QA automation practice while mentoring a team of QA engineers. This individual will serve as the technical authority for the QA automation ecosystem, providing expertise across the automation tools, frameworks, and testing practices used throughout the organization.

This is a highly technical role requiring deep experience with both manual and automated testing. The ideal candidate will lead by example, mentor engineers, review automation solutions, and remain actively involved in designing, developing, and maintaining automated tests. They should also understand how AI-assisted development and testing can improve productivity while maintaining high standards for quality.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to a team of QA engineers.

• Serve as the subject matter expert for the automation tools, frameworks, and testing practices used across the organization.

• Design, develop, maintain, and review automated test solutions using Playwright and Tosca.

• Guide engineers through automation design, framework usage, troubleshooting, and best practices.

• Review user stories and help define effective testing strategies.

• Lead the full testing lifecycle, including reviewing requirements, creating manual functional test cases, validating test scenarios, evaluating existing test assets for reuse, and implementing automated test coverage.

• Determine the appropriate automation approach for new functionality while balancing automation and manual testing where appropriate.

• Perform manual, functional, regression, integration, API, and database testing as needed.

• Collaborate closely with software engineers, product managers, and QA leadership throughout the software development lifecycle.

• Drive continuous improvement of automation frameworks, testing processes, and overall software quality.

• Establish and maintain automation standards and best practices across the QA organization.

• Help the team effectively leverage AI-assisted testing and development tools to improve productivity, efficiency, and test coverage.

• Evaluate AI-generated outputs to ensure accuracy, maintainability, and quality before implementation.

Required Qualifications

• 8+ years of Quality Assurance experience with a strong emphasis on test automation.

• Experience leading, mentoring, or providing technical guidance to QA engineers.

• Expert-level hands-on experience with Playwright.

• Strong hands-on experience with Tosca.

• Experience working across multiple automation tools and frameworks, with the ability to guide engineers on selecting and applying the appropriate solution for different testing scenarios.

• Strong background in both manual and automated software testing.

• Experience designing, developing, and maintaining automation frameworks.

• Strong experience with API testing.

• Experience performing database validation using SQL.

• Experience creating functional test cases from business requirements and user stories.

• Experience incorporating AI-assisted development or testing tools into QA workflows to improve productivity while maintaining high standards for quality.

• Ability to critically evaluate AI-generated outputs and apply sound engineering judgment.

• Strong understanding of Agile software development methodologies.

• Excellent troubleshooting, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working within SaaS applications.

• Experience supporting automation framework modernization or migration initiatives.

• Experience working with globally distributed development and QA teams.
