Title: SolarWinds Specialist
Location: Houston, TX (Hybrid in 77046)
Duration: Contract
Work Requirements: US Citizen, GC Holders or Authorized to Work in the US.

• Strong experience with SolarWinds is required, specifically, the ability to add maps and pull configs from devices
• Candidates MUST be local to Houston – non-local candidates will not be considered

 
Overview:
We are seeking a skilled Networking/SolarWinds Specialist with deep expertise in SolarWinds/Orion to support a critical update and optimization initiative. The role will primarily focus on refreshing, adding, and enhancing network maps and nodes as part of an ongoing migration from Cisco to Fortinet devices. This specialist will play a key role in ensuring up-to-date monitoring and configuration capture during the transition.
 
Key Responsibilities:

• Perform a comprehensive review and update of nodes and topology maps in SolarWinds/Orion
• Add and maintain new maps in SolarWinds as part of the Cisco-to-Fortinet migration effort
• Update existing maps in real time as devices are migrated
• Add new network nodes and ensure proper classification and visibility within SolarWinds
• Pull configurations from devices as they are added or migrated into the system
• Validate and optimize current monitoring configurations and alerting thresholds
• Identify gaps in monitoring coverage and implement best practices for enhanced visibility
• Collaborate closely with network and infrastructure teams throughout the migration process
• Document all updates and provide recommendations for long-term platform optimization

 
Required Skills & Experience:

• Hands-on experience managing and configuring SolarWinds/Orion (NPM, NCM, SAM, etc.)
• Strong understanding of network infrastructure (switches, routers, firewalls, servers)
• Experience with map and node configuration, custom alerts, and dashboard creation
• Proficiency in pulling configurations from network devices using NCM or other tools
• Familiarity with SNMP, WMI, ICMP, and general network protocols
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills

 
Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior experience supporting network migrations, especially Cisco to Fortinet
• Experience leading SolarWinds update or cleanup initiatives
• SolarWinds Certified Professional (SCP) is a plus
• Background in enterprise or multi-site environments
