Application Architecture Consultant – Short-Term Professional Services – Remote (US/PT)

Duration: Short-Term Engagement (Potential for Future Work)
Pay: $75-100/hr
Start Date: Immediate, targeting go-live by end of August
Work Requirements: US Citizen, GC Holders or Authorized to Work in the U.S.
Overview: We are seeking an experienced Application Architecture Consultant to perform a short-term engagement for a new custom application release in the higher education sector. This application will integrate with a third-party meal services solution (similar to LINQ Connect) at the college level, determining student eligibility and supporting file exchange workflows.
The consultant will assess the application's architecture to ensure resiliency, provide recommendations for improvement, and support the upcoming go-live. Future work may involve re-architecting the application for enhanced performance and scalability.
Responsibilities:
- Review and assess the current application architecture for resiliency, scalability, and security.
- Evaluate and validate file exchange mechanisms (primarily SFTP) for integration with the meal services application.
- Ensure secure and reliable handling of data files between systems.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to identify risks, gaps, and optimization opportunities prior to go-live.
- Assist with database setup and basic reporting functionality to measure program success after implementation.
- Provide input on distributed architecture design and resilient security practices.
- Document findings, recommendations, and implementation guidelines.
Qualifications:
- Proven expertise in application architecture and distributed systems design.
- Strong background in file exchange protocols (SFTP, FTPS) and secure data transfer best practices.
- Experience with database design, data storage, and reporting tools.
- Familiarity with higher education or public sector technology environments preferred.
- Strong understanding of resilient security architecture.
- Excellent analytical, documentation, and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and remotely with minimal oversight.
