Project: Preferred Consultant Database (PCD) Proof-of-Concept

Duration: Ongoing Contract (with potential extension for full migration)

Rate: $40–45/hour W2

Position Description

We are seeking a talented Mid-Level WordPress Developer to lead the technical development of the Preferred Consultant Database (PCD) Proof-of-Concept. This critical initiative will demonstrate the viability of migrating a legacy .NET consultant management system to a modern WordPress Multi-Site platform with Gutenberg/React interfaces.

You’ll work directly with the Lead Solutions Architect to build custom plugins, develop intuitive Gutenberg blocks, and implement data migration strategies that will serve as the blueprint for a larger enterprise modernization effort.

This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the technical foundation of a multi-year re-platforming initiative while working with cutting-edge WordPress technologies and AI-augmented development tools. Required Skills & Experience

WordPress Expertise (3–5 years)

  • WordPress Multi-Site architecture — network administration, site management, multi-tenant configurations

  • Custom plugin development — OOP PHP, hooks/filters, custom post types, taxonomies

  • WordPress REST API — custom endpoints, authentication, data serialization

  • Security best practices — input sanitization, nonce validation, capability checks, SQL injection prevention

  • Performance optimization — object caching, query optimization, transients, lazy loading

Gutenberg/React Development (2–4 years)

  • Gutenberg block development — custom blocks using @wordpress/scripts, block.json, InspectorControls

  • React fundamentals — components, hooks (useState, useEffect, useContext), props, and state management

  • JavaScript ES6+ — arrow functions, destructuring, async/await, modules, promises

  • WordPress data layer — @wordpress/data, useSelect, useDispatch, custom stores

  • Block patterns and variations — reusable block patterns, variations, and template parts

Database & Integration (2–4 years)

  • MySQL/MariaDB — query optimization, indexing, database design, migrations

  • REST API integration — external APIs, OAuth/JWT authentication, error handling

  • Data migration — ETL processes, transformation, validation, rollback strategies

  • Version control — Git workflows, branching, pull requests, and code review

Enterprise Development Practices

  • CI/CD pipelines — GitLab CI, automated testing, deployment automation

  • Code quality tools — PHPStan, ESLint, PHP_CodeSniffer, automated testing frameworks

  • Agile methodologies — sprint planning, daily standups, retrospectives, ticket management

  • Documentation — technical documentation, code comments, API documentation


Preferred Skills (Nice to Have)

  • TypeScript for React components

  • WP-CLI for command-line WordPress management

  • AI-augmented development (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor)

  • Legacy .NET/MSSQL knowledge for migration context

  • WCAG 2.1 AA accessibility standards for component development


Key Responsibilities

Development (60%)

  • Develop custom WordPress plugins for business logic and data models

  • Build Gutenberg blocks and React components for user interfaces

  • Implement REST API endpoints for data access and integrations

  • Write unit and integration tests for code quality assurance

  • Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback

Migration (20%)

  • Assist with data migration from .NET/MSSQL to WordPress/MySQL

  • Implement data transformation and validation logic

  • Test migrated data for accuracy and completeness

  • Document migration processes and best practices

Integration (10%)

  • Integrate with external systems through RESTful APIs

  • Implement authentication and authorization patterns

  • Build integration adapters and test for reliability and performance

Collaboration (10%)

  • Work with senior developers and architects on technical decisions

  • Collaborate with QA on testing strategies

  • Participate in sprint planning and daily standups

  • Communicate progress, challenges, and blockers to technical leadership

  • Code Quality: 90%+ code coverage, zero critical vulnerabilities

  • Velocity: Complete assigned tickets within sprint commitments

  • Collaboration: Positive peer reviews and strong communication
