This role focuses on the technical enablement of data governance, including metadata ingestion, catalog configuration, data profiling, data quality automation, lineage enablement and platform support. The Platform Specialist works in close partnership with Data Governance leadership, data engineering and security teams, cloud architects, and data stewards to ensure governance tooling is effectively integrated into the enterprise data ecosystem.

Responsibilities

  • Install, configure, customize and manage tools like BigID and Atlan/Alation (prior hands-on DG tool maintenance experience is a must)
  • Connect the tools to data sources using built-in connectors (e.g., AWS, Azure,
  • Oracle, Salesforce, Workday etc.) or through JDBC/ODBC, APIs or custom ingestion approaches. Hands-on experience with these is a must.
  • Run and monitor data scans and metadata ingestion jobs. Prior ETL/ELT and DG metadata management experience will help here.
  • Configure and maintain data lineage (automated and manual) and troubleshoot lineage gaps.
  • Integrate with enterprise security and identity systems (e.g., SSO, Active Directory). Configure authentication and manage secure access.
  • Set up user roles, access and permissions in the tools. Onboard users, resolve user access issues.
  • Build and manage data governance workflows (to support approvals, issue tracking, stewardship tasks).
  • Set up data classification rules, tags and glossary mappings (these details will be provided by the functional DG analysts)
  • Set up and manage environments (dev/prod), including migration of configurations across environments.
  • Fix day-to-day issues (failed jobs, access problems, missing data, performance issues).
  • Handle tool maintenance including upgrades, patches and system health checks. Coordinate with product vendors for upgrade planning and execution, issue resolution and bug fixes.
  • Configure and manage backups, restores and disaster recovery for the tools.
  • Train users and help them understand how to use the tools effectively.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field plus at least 6 years of relevant experience in data governance platform administration, data management, or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education.
  • Prior experience with data governance tool configuration, maintenance and support.
  • Experience in data platform administration, data engineering, or information management roles, with hands-on responsibility for implementing, configuring, and supporting enterprise data platforms.
  • Proven, hands-on experience administering and operating data governance and catalog platforms (e.g., Alation, Atlan, Collibra, BigID, AWS DataZone), including platform configuration, upgrades, metadata ingestion, and operational support.
  • Practical experience enabling metadata ingestion, technical data lineage, data profiling, and data quality automation across source systems, data platforms, and analytics environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with Oracle databases, enterprise data warehouses, and AWS-based enterprise data platforms, with exposure to Azure environments.
  • Strong SQL and scripting skills to support metadata ingestion, automation, integration, and technical data analysis.
  • Experience integrating governance platforms with Oracle, AWS-based data services, and analytics tools using native connectors, APIs, and ETL/ELT frameworks.
  • Working knowledge of data privacy, security, and compliance as they relate to metadata, classification, and access controls.
  • Solid understanding of cloud-native data platforms, with emphasis on AWS enterprise data platforms and familiarity with Azure data services.
  • Experience using workflow orchestration tools to manage metadata ingestion and profiling processes.
