Title: Systems Administrator
Location: The Woodlands, TX (Hybrid in 77380)
Duration: Contract-to-Hire

Key Points:

• This role is hybrid, 3 days a week onsite in The Woodlands, TX (77380) and will have occasional travel to the field (~15%)

 
Overview:
We are seeking a well-rounded Systems Administrator to support a hybrid IT environment within a dynamic oil & gas organization. This role requires a server infrastructure generalist with strong experience in modern, cloud-first Microsoft technologies, while also maintaining and supporting legacy and on-premises systems. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working across both IT and operational technology (OT) environments, including field systems at pipeline, plant, or ignition sites.
 
Key Responsibilities:

• Administer and support a hybrid infrastructure spanning on-premises and cloud environments
• Manage Microsoft cloud platforms including Azure, Microsoft 365, and related services
• Maintain and support Windows Server environments, including Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS, and DHCP
• Monitor system performance, availability, and security across infrastructure components
• Support virtualization platforms (VMware and/or Hyper-V)
• Implement and maintain backup, disaster recovery, and business continuity solutions
• Assist with cloud migrations, system upgrades, and infrastructure modernization initiatives
• Troubleshoot and resolve system, server, and application issues across environments
• Support identity and access management, including Azure AD and hybrid identity solutions
• Collaborate with network, security, and application teams to ensure reliable operations
• Provide support for remote and field-based systems, including OT-related infrastructure where applicable
• Ensure systems meet compliance, security, and operational standards within an oil & gas environment

 
Required Qualifications:

• 4+ years of experience as a Systems Administrator or similar role
• Strong experience with Microsoft technologies: Windows Server, Active Directory, Group Policy
• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365 (Exchange Online, Teams, SharePoint, Intune)
• Experience supporting hybrid cloud environments (on-prem + cloud integration)
• Familiarity with virtualization technologies (VMware and/or Hyper-V)
• Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs)
• Experience with backup and recovery solutions
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

 
Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience in the oil & gas industry or other industrial environments
• Exposure to OT (Operational Technology) systems such as SCADA, ICS, or field-based control systems
• Experience supporting infrastructure in remote or rugged environments (plants, pipelines, field sites)
• Knowledge of security best practices and tools (MFA, conditional access, endpoint security)
• Scripting/automation experience (PowerShell preferred)
• Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools

 
Work Environment:

• Hybrid IT environment (cloud and on-premises)
• May require occasional travel to field locations up to 15% (pipeline, plant, or ignition sites)
• On-call or after-hours support may be required

 
Work Schedule:

• This position will work 9 hours Monday – Thursday and 4 hours on Friday. The position will work a hybrid schedule. Some flexibility to work off-hours maintenance as required.
