Job Title: Sr. Accountant
Reports to: Senior Vice President of Finance
Role Overview
The Senior Accountant is responsible for executing core accounting functions to support the company’s financial operations, including month-end close activities, account reconciliations, accounts payable and receivable processes, and financial reporting preparation. This role ensures accuracy and timeliness of financial data while supporting budgeting and operational initiatives.
The Senior Accountant partners closely with finance leadership to maintain strong financial controls, improve processes, and support day-to-day accounting operations. This position also assists with employee expense programs and serves as a resource for internal teams on accounting-related matters.
This position is based in our headquarters office in Schaumburg and follows a hybrid work schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Financial Operations:
Prepare and post journal entries, perform account reconciliations, support month-end and year-end close processes, manage invoicing and cash activity, and assist with accounts payable, accounts receivable, and collections to ensure accurate financial records. - Reporting & Analysis:
Assist in preparing financial reports, support variance analysis, track expenses, and contribute to budgeting and forecasting activities. Provide data and insights to support finance leadership and operational teams. - Expense & Corporate Card Support:
Support employee expense management processes, including Concur administration, employee onboarding, expense report review, and responding to inquiries. Assist with WEX card program administration, troubleshooting, and reporting. - Process Improvement & Compliance:
Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy. Support internal controls, audit preparation, and compliance with accounting policies and procedures. - Cross-Functional Support:
Collaborate with internal teams, vendors, and external partners to resolve accounting issues, respond to inquiries, and support day-to-day financial operations.
Skills
- Accounting Fundamentals:
Strong understanding of general accounting principles, journal entries, reconciliations, and financial reporting. - Systems & Technical Skills:
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with accounting systems such as QuickBooks, Concur, bill.com, WEX, or similar platforms. - Analytical Thinking:
Ability to analyze financial data, identify discrepancies, and support problem-solving efforts. - Organization & Time Management:
Effectively manages multiple responsibilities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail. - Communication & Collaboration:
Communicates clearly and works effectively across teams while providing responsive support to employees and stakeholders. - Adaptability:
Ability to adjust to changing priorities, business needs, and evolving processes.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 3–5 years of relevant accounting experience
- Experience supporting month-end close and financial reporting
- CPA or progress toward certification is plus
