Position Overview
We are seeking a Systems Engineer to support the planning, execution, and analysis of environmental and reliability testing for advanced opto-mechanical and electro-mechanical systems. This role is ideal for an engineer with hands-on laboratory experience, a strong analytical background, and a passion for identifying and solving complex reliability challenges.
The Systems Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams to validate product reliability, investigate failures, and help drive continuous improvements in design and test methodologies.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, coordinate, and execute environmental and reliability tests, including thermal cycling, vibration testing, HALT/HASS, and life testing activities.
- Operate and maintain environmental test equipment such as thermal chambers, vibration systems, and HALT/HASS platforms.
- Perform statistical reliability analyses, including Weibull analysis, acceleration modeling, and degradation analysis, to evaluate product lifetime and failure distributions.
- Investigate test and screening failures across optical, mechanical, and electrical systems to determine failure modes, mechanisms, and root causes.
- Support Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Root Cause Analysis (RCA) efforts.
- Partner with design engineering teams to implement Design for Reliability (DfR) principles through reliability data, risk assessments, and test feedback.
- Develop and maintain detailed test procedures, reports, and technical documentation with clear, actionable findings.
- Collaborate with manufacturing and quality teams to establish and refine reliability screening methods and acceptance criteria.
- Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives related to test processes, fixtures, data acquisition, and laboratory workflows.
- Present test results, reliability assessments, and recommendations to engineering teams and key stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline.
- Experience with analytical methodologies related to materials evaluation and failure analysis.
- Experience conducting statistical data analysis and interpreting technical results.
- Hands-on experience operating environmental test equipment, including thermal chambers, vibration systems, and/or HALT/HASS platforms.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex technical issues.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to clearly document and present technical findings.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with PCBA-level testing, inspection, and failure analysis.
- Knowledge of reliability engineering methods and tools, including Weibull analysis and software such as ReliaSoft, Weibull++, Minitab, JMP, or similar platforms.
- Familiarity with industry reliability and qualification standards such as Telcordia GR-468, MIL-STD-810, MIL-HDBK-217, and JEDEC.
- Experience with data analysis, scripting, or test automation using Python, MATLAB, LabVIEW, or similar tools.
- Exposure to optics, opto-electronics, or optical communication technologies.
- Experience working in cross-functional engineering environments supporting product development and qualification.
