ABOUT THIS FEATURED OPPORTUNITY
We're seeking a driven Mechanical Design Engineer to play a key role in developing next-generation wearable hardware that combines advanced sensing technologies with soft, body-conforming materials. In this role, you'll collaborate with a high-caliber team of researchers, electrical engineers, and materials experts to rapidly develop, prototype, and refine novel hardware concepts that shape the future of wearable technology.

THE OPPORTUNITY FOR YOU

  • Design, prototype, build, and iterate electromechanical hardware for next-generation wearable systems.
  • Develop mechanical solutions that integrate sensors, flexible electronics, and soft materials into compact wearable form factors.
  • Design custom fixtures, tooling, and prototype hardware to accelerate experimentation and validation.
  • Partner closely with researchers and cross-functional engineering teams to rapidly evaluate concepts and translate research into robust hardware prototypes.
  • Work with manufacturing partners to produce prototype hardware, incorporating Design for Manufacturing (DFM) principles while balancing speed, functionality, and experimental needs.
  • Perform mechanical characterization, testing, failure analysis, and root cause investigations to drive design improvements.
  • Support multiple rapid design-build-test cycles simultaneously in a fast-paced R&D environment.

KEY SUCCESS FACTORS

  • BS in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent industry experience.
  • 3+ years of experience designing and building hardware prototypes, preferably within wearable consumer electronics or related electromechanical products.
  • Experience developing mechanical systems from concept through functional prototype.
  • Experience designing components using CAD software such as Siemens NX (preferred), Creo, or SolidWorks.
  • Experience integrating PCBAs, flexible circuits (FPCs), sensors, or other electronic components into mechanical assemblies.
  • Hands-on prototyping experience utilizing machining, 3D printing, and rapid fabrication techniques.
  • Experience designing parts for injection molding and other high-volume manufacturing processes.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical fundamentals, tolerance analysis, material selection, and failure analysis.

NICE TO HAVES

  • Experience developing wearable consumer electronics or other body-worn devices.
  • Experience designing with elastomers, silicones, or other compliant materials.
  • Experience integrating haptic technologies, including LRAs, ERMs, voice coils, or similar electromechanical actuators.
  • Experience working with sensors or precision electromechanical assemblies.
  • Experience collaborating with overseas manufacturing partners to fabricate and iterate prototype hardware.
  • Experience with liquid injection molding, overmolding, or other soft-material manufacturing processes.
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary R&D organizations with rapidly evolving requirements.
