Contract HR Consultant – ADP & HR Operations

Our client is seeking an experienced Contract HR Consultant to assess, stabilize, and improve its Human Resources department. This is a temporary consulting assignment, not a contract-to-hire opportunity. The consultant will work directly with senior leadership to evaluate current HR operations, address immediate challenges, improve processes, and recommend a practical path forward for the HR function.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on HR professional with strong technical expertise in ADP, experience troubleshooting HR systems and processes, and the ability to provide objective recommendations regarding organizational structure, employee relations, compliance, and HR team effectiveness.

Key Responsibilities

  • ADP Systems Expertise: Assess, troubleshoot, and improve ADP functionality, processes, data, and workflows. Identify system and process gaps and recommend solutions to improve efficiency and accuracy.

  • HR Operations Assessment: Evaluate current HR operations, identify inefficiencies and areas requiring immediate attention, and recommend improvements to policies, procedures, and departmental workflows.

  • Organizational Assessment: Assess the current HR team, clarify responsibilities, identify capability gaps, and provide objective recommendations regarding staffing and the department's long-term structure.

  • Recruitment & Employee Lifecycle: Review and improve interviewing, hiring, onboarding, termination, and offboarding processes.

  • Employee Relations & Investigations: Conduct thorough, impartial workplace investigations; evaluate employee complaints and allegations; and recommend appropriate follow-up actions.

  • Compliance & Labor Relations: Review HR compliance practices, assess union-related issues, and recommend improvements to help ensure consistent and appropriate HR practices.

  • Change Management: Support leadership in improving longstanding processes, implementing organizational changes, and establishing clearer expectations and accountability.

  • Leadership Consulting: Provide candid assessments, practical recommendations, and guidance on immediate HR priorities and future staffing decisions.

  • Team Development & Structure: Evaluate current HR capabilities and provide recommendations regarding the effective use of existing personnel and potential future additions to the team.

Required Qualifications

  • Significant experience in HR management, HR operations, or HR consulting.

  • Strong, hands-on technical expertise with ADP systems, including troubleshooting and process improvement.

  • Proven experience assessing and improving HR departments.

  • Experience with recruitment, interviewing, onboarding, terminations, and offboarding.

  • Strong employee relations and workplace investigation experience.

  • Working knowledge of HR compliance and labor or union-related matters.

  • Experience with organizational assessment, change management, and process improvement.

  • Strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work independently, maintain confidentiality, and advise senior leadership objectively.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal consultant is an experienced HR problem-solver who can quickly understand a complex environment, identify what is working and what is not, and provide actionable recommendations. This person must be comfortable working directly with senior leadership, troubleshooting ADP issues, evaluating existing HR processes and personnel, and helping determine the appropriate structure and capabilities needed for the department.
