Job Summary:
Our goal is to explore, innovate and design novel interfaces and hardware subsystems for the next generation of virtual, augmented, and mixed reality experiences. Our team of researchers is evaluating novel interaction techniques and user interfaces to improve human experiences in the augmented world. We are looking for a motivated Research Assistant to join our team and support the human subject research studies we are conducting. The chosen candidates will work with a diverse and highly interdisciplinary team of researchers and engineers and will have access to cutting edge technology, resources, and testing facilities. We are specifically looking for candidates with experience in supporting human behavioral experiments.
Responsibilities
Stage, set up, and/or manage equipment and lab spaces to be used for experiments
Conduct experiments which include collection of informed consent, running experiment protocols, handling of confidential data, data annotation, and creation of basic reports
Conduct literature reviews on a wide field of research topics
Assist with recruiting and scheduling of experiment participants
Help with experimental design, documentation, and provide feedback during design
Required Characteristics:
Bachelors or equivalent experience in a closely-related research area
Strong communication, interpersonal and personal management skills
Some experience working in a research/academic environment involving human subjects
Desired Characteristics:
Bachelors in the field of psychology (e.g. neuroscience), cognitive science (e.g., artificial intelligence), computer science (e.g., human-computer interaction), engineering (e.g., human-factors), or a closely-related research area
Experience analyzing data and/or designing research protocols
Experience collecting user interaction data and working with related technical equipment (e.g., inertial sensing with IMUs, optical sensing, EMG).
This role has a broad set of duties around conducting research studies with human subjects. HSRAs will be responsible for assisting researchers in the set-up and execution of studies, with a focus on data collection with human subjects. Responsibilities include:
I.generally assist principal investigators with experiments involving human subjects
II.help with experimental design and provide useful feedback prior to study
III.set up equipment for the study, which may involve engaging with engineering, external equipment vendors, internal and external safety evaluators, and the research study team to ensure the equipment is set up properly
IV.work with Meta staff to ensure that study equipment is set up to operate following all applicable safety plans
V.pilot experiments, make observations, and give feedback to the study team to optimize study procedures
VI.assist the study project manager and external recruiting services in participant recruiting and scheduling activities
VII.execute study protocols, which may include any or all of the following: screening participants, obtaining participant consent, assuring the privacy and confidentiality of participants and their data, instructing study participants and guiding them through study procedures, running the study procedures, collecting the data per study design, formatting and annotating the data, and creating basic reports regarding the data
VIII.follow procedures related to maintaining confidential information and handling of confidential data
IX.support research and development in various areas including data collection, onsite handling, tracking of participant compensation and tracking of equipment and procedures
X.summarize literature reviews
XI.purchase research papers
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
Ability to learn new technologies quickly.
Experience utilizing Microsoft Office Suite and Excel.
Experience understanding and communicating technical information to non-experts.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in a scientific discipline.
Prior experience with research participant recruitment and/or participant/patient intake and personal data processing.
