About the Opportunity

Our client is seeking a SOX Controls Testing Analyst to support enterprise-wide Sarbanes-Oxley (SOX) compliance and controls testing efforts within a fast-paced retail and consumer financial services environment.

This role will partner closely with Internal Audit, Accounting, Finance, Operations, and business leadership to evaluate the effectiveness of key financial and operational controls supporting a publicly traded organization. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and experienced navigating complex, transaction-heavy business environments.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Execute SOX controls testing across financial, operational, and business process areas
  • Perform walkthroughs and assess the design and operating effectiveness of internal controls
  • Partner with Accounting, Finance, Operations, HR, Procurement, and business stakeholders to gather documentation and validate controls
  • Support testing related to key business cycles including cash, inventory, revenue, payroll, procurement, and financial reporting
  • Assist with risk assessments, remediation tracking, and deficiency documentation
  • Prepare clear and organized audit workpapers, testing documentation, and status reporting
  • Coordinate with external auditors and support requests tied to annual SOX compliance efforts
  • Help identify process improvement opportunities and recommend enhancements to strengthen internal controls and operational efficiency
  • Participate in special projects tied to compliance initiatives, operational improvements, and business transformation activities

What We’re Looking For

  • 3+ years of experience supporting SOX compliance, internal audit, controls testing, or public accounting environments
  • Strong understanding of SOX methodologies, internal controls, and audit procedures
  • Experience working within publicly traded companies preferred
  • Background supporting retail, financial services, lending, consumer finance, or multi-location operational environments highly valued
  • Ability to analyze processes, identify control gaps, and communicate findings effectively
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple testing activities and deadlines simultaneously
  • Comfortable interacting cross-functionally with both operational and executive stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications

  • Big 4 or public accounting experience preferred
  • Experience with inventory, cash handling, retail operations, or high-volume transaction environments is a plus
  • Familiarity with ERP systems such as Oracle, SAP, Workday, or similar enterprise platforms preferred
  • Certifications such as CPA, CIA, or CISA are a plus but not required
