Location: Hybrid in 77380 (onsite 4 days a week: Mon-Thurs)
Duration: Contract-to-Hire

• This position will be onsite 4 days a week, with remote Fridays.
• Candidates can be located in either the Houston area OR Las Vegas.
• Strong skills in the general administration of server environments, including Azure, VMware, M365, EntraID, etc. is required.

 
Overview
We are seeking a Senior Systems Administrator / Systems Engineer to join our client’s IT Infrastructure team. This role is responsible for the administration, support, and optimization of the organization's hybrid infrastructure environment, including Windows servers, Microsoft 365, Active Directory, virtualization platforms, backups, and identity management systems.
 
The ideal candidate will possess a strong infrastructure background with hands-on experience managing both on-premises and cloud-hosted systems. This is an engineer-level role requiring someone who can take ownership of systems, troubleshoot complex issues, implement improvements, and help maintain a secure, highly available environment.
 
Key Responsibilities

• Administer and support Windows Server environments across on-premises and cloud-hosted infrastructure.
• Manage and maintain Active Directory, Entra ID, hybrid identity, Group Policy, AD trusts, and replication.
• Administer Microsoft 365 services, including user management, security, licensing, and tenant administration.
• Provision, configure, and maintain virtual servers, including initial server setup, baseline configuration, and ongoing administration.
• Manage VMware environments, including vCenter and ESXi hosts.
• Perform backup, recovery, and disaster recovery operations to ensure business continuity.
• Execute server patching, upgrades, and routine maintenance activities.
• Automate administrative tasks using PowerShell and other infrastructure automation tools.
• Troubleshoot and resolve infrastructure, server, identity, and systems-related issues across hybrid environments.
• Collaborate with IT teams to implement system improvements and maintain operational excellence.
• Document configurations, procedures, and infrastructure standards.

 
Required Qualifications

• 5+ years of experience in Systems Administration or Infrastructure Engineering.
• Strong experience with:
  • Windows Server administration
  • Active Directory, Entra ID, and hybrid identity environments
  • Microsoft 365 administration
  • Group Policy (GPO), AD trusts, and replication
  • PowerShell scripting and infrastructure automation
  • VMware, vCenter, and ESXi
  • Server patching and lifecycle management
  • Backup and recovery operations
  • General infrastructure troubleshooting across hybrid environments
• Experience administering identity and access management platforms such as Okta.
• Experience managing both on-premises and cloud-hosted servers and systems.

 
Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with Rubrik backup and recovery solutions.
• Exposure to AWS and/or Azure cloud environments.
• Experience with Intune and Mobile Device Management (MDM).
• Experience with SCCM or endpoint deployment technologies.
• Familiarity with Linux administration.
