Title: Software Engineer II
Location: Los Angeles, CA (hybrid)
Duration: 6-12+month contract to at least 7/30/2027 (with possible extension)
Compensation: $86.62 – $111.92

Job Summary
As a Software Engineer, you will build, refactor, extend, and operate the tools and systems that keep our game's production and set development moving. You will build AI-forward automations that accelerate and enable producers, designers, and cross-functional partners, and build long-term-usable systems.
This is a contract role with a scope that spans Production Tooling refinement, Airtable integration support, Set Development tooling, and other technical needs on the team. You will partner with production, design, and engineering to identify friction points and ship the automations, integrations, and refactors that remove them. Where existing prototypes are load-bearing, you will make them robust; where new automation would compress a manual workflow, you will build it.
This role reports to the project's Engineering Lead.

On this team, you will be:

  • Player-Focused: You understand that the tooling you build reaches players indirectly, through the teams shipping the product. You care about reliability and correctness because a broken pipeline is a delayed set or a broken card.
  • A Collaborator: You work elbow-to-elbow with producers, designers, tech artists, and engineers to understand the workflows you are automating. You welcome the constraints of the systems you are integrating with and the people whose work depends on them.
  • An Optimizer: You have strong instincts for what to automate and what to leave alone. Manual repetition bothers you, and you build the integrations and scripts that eliminate it. You know when a prototype is worth hardening and when it should be rewritten.
  • Adaptable: You are comfortable moving between refactoring existing prototypes, building new automations, learning and integrating new systems such as Slack and Glean, and picking up ad hoc requests as they come in. You can hold multiple small-to-medium problem spaces at once.
  • Inclusive: You seek input from the people whose work your tooling affects. You ask questions before shipping, and you document what you build so the next engineer, or the team member using the tool, can pick it up without you.

Responsibilities

  • Refactor and optimize the Production Tooling prototypes built by producers on the team, ensuring the tooling is robust and usable for the long term.
  • Build advanced Airtable automations that support the Set Development workflow.
  • Maintain and extend the Airtable data and automation, adding new automations as needed to support product and design needs.
  • Build Airtable integrations that support requests from Project Placeholder and other Riot teams, including cross-project data views.
  • Build automation for text checks that ensure the Airtable Dev environment is up to date.
  • Partner with design and production to identify areas where automation streamlines designer workflows on Set Development.
  • Build card layout automation to compress manual production steps.
  • Extend existing and new integrations to reduce manual coordination overhead.

Required Qualifications

  • 6+ years of professional software development experience.
  • Experience owning or operating infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines for live or continuously deployed products.
  • Proficiency in one or more of: C#, Java, Go, Python or similar object-oriented languages.
  • Experience with cloud technologies (AWS, GCP, or Azure), containerization, and infrastructure-as-code.
  • Proven ability to drive technical strategy, break down complex multi-month work, and deliver autonomously.
  • Experience integrating with third-party APIs (Slack, Airtable, Google Workspace, or equivalent) in a production context.
  • Ability to identify friction in a partner team's workflow and design tooling that removes it, including scoping the work end to end.
  • Strong communication skills and experience partnering across engineering, design, and production disciplines.
  • Ability to work autonomously in a fast-moving, ambiguity-heavy environment while balancing multiple concurrent requests.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience building content pipeline or set development tooling for a card game, tabletop game, or comparable content-heavy product.
  • Familiarity with Slack API automation, Glean integrations, or comparable enterprise workflow tooling.
  • Experience working with game production workflows, including Airtable, Jira, and content management systems.
  • Experience with agent frameworks or LLM tool integration for automating knowledge or data workflows.
  • Experience with cross-team data integration where multiple product teams share art, cards, or content assets.
  • Experience building Airtable integrations, including scripting, API usage, and automation.
  • Experience building AI-forward automation and support tooling, including agent-driven or LLM-driven workflows.
  • Demonstrated ability to take prototype code and refactor it into robust, maintainable tooling that others can rely on.
  • Prior contract engagements at this company or a comparable game studio.
