Our client is seeking an experienced Performance Engineer to support high-visibility Identity and digital wallet initiatives, with a focus on server-side performance testing, integration, and performance optimization. This role will support projects involving digital identity credentials and financial applications, ensuring applications and services perform reliably as they scale.

The Performance Engineer will partner cross-functionally with engineering teams and external partners throughout testing cycles, helping strategize performance testing approaches, identify issues, and drive solutions. The team is also modernizing its Identity technology stack, including migration to a new Kotlin-based platform, creating an opportunity to validate performance and ensure there is no degradation as applications transition to the new architecture.

THE OPPORTUNITY FOR YOU

As a Performance Engineer, you will spend the majority of your time planning, executing, and analyzing performance tests across complex applications and services. You will leverage your expertise in AWS, Java, and Kotlin to understand application behavior, identify performance bottlenecks, and ensure systems can reliably support high transaction volumes.

This role is ideal for someone with a strong performance testing background who understands the internal workings of Java applications and AWS infrastructure and can collaborate effectively across engineering teams and external partners. While approximately 10–20% of the role involves coding and scripting, the primary focus will be performance testing, analysis, tuning, and ensuring applications operate efficiently and reliably.

KEY SUCCESS FACTORS (Top 3 Must-Have Skills)

1. AWS & Cloud Performance Engineering
   • Ability to analyze system behavior and performance within highly scalable cloud environments and identify potential performance bottlenecks.
   • Experience with autoscaling and cloud infrastructure, including an understanding of how workloads scale across infrastructure, containers, pods, and nodes.
   • 5+ years of hands-on experience with AWS technologies, with a strong understanding of AWS services and how they support application performance, scalability, and reliability.
2. Java & Performance Testing
   • 5+ years of hands-on Java experience with a strong understanding of Java application internals, including application behavior, connection handling, and performance considerations.
   • Strong performance testing background, with experience testing, tuning, troubleshooting, and analyzing applications rather than focusing primarily on application development.
   • Experience with performance/load-testing frameworks such as JMeter or Gatling, including the ability to work with and modify automated testing scripts as needed.
   • Ability to understand and tune existing code or scripts to improve application performance and support performance testing efforts.
3. Kotlin & High-Scale Performance Testing
   • Working knowledge of Kotlin, with a solid understanding of basic syntax and the ability to navigate Kotlin-based applications and testing environments.
