Title: IT Network Field Specialist
Location: Longmont/Firestone, CO with travel to field facilities; regional coverage may include remote locations throughout the DJ basin and the Longmont office. 
Duration: Contract-to-Hire
Work Requirements: US Citizen, GC Holders or Authorized to Work in the US.

  • Previous experience working in a field setting or non-corporate/industrial type setting is required.
  • This position will be primarily based out of the office in the northern Denver area (80504), with occasional travel around the greater Denver area as needed (~25%)

 
Job Overview:
The IT Field Services Specialist installs, maintains, and troubleshoots technology at offices, gas processing plants, compressor stations, and remote field locations. This position supports reliable communications and site IT equipment, responds to outages, and helps bring new facilities and acquired locations onto company systems. 
 

The specialist works closely with Operations, the Service Desk, Network Engineering, Systems, Cybersecurity, SCADA, and vendors. The role requires hands-on troubleshooting, sound judgment, and clear communication from the first report of an issue through resolution. 
 

Key Responsibilities 

  • Network and site connectivity. Install and troubleshoot switches, wireless access points, Ethernet and fiber connections, and related equipment. Diagnose IP addressing, VLAN, DHCP, DNS, PoE, and connectivity issues within assigned access and approved procedures. 
  • Field communications. Support point-to-point and point-to-multipoint radio links, microwave equipment, cellular routers, and satellite connections. Troubleshoot power, cabling, signal, and equipment issues with RF specialists, carriers, and vendors. 
  • Site infrastructure and reliability. Install and maintain equipment in racks, network rooms, and communications shelters. Inspect UPS systems, batteries, monitoring cards, cabling, labeling, and environmental conditions. Coordinate repairs and track recurring problems. 
  • User and office support. Provide onsite support for laptops, docking stations, monitors, printers, conference room AV, and approved applications. Assist with device setup and replacement, account or access troubleshooting, and endpoint management within assigned permissions. Coordinate tickets with the Service Desk. 
  • Servers and operational connectivity. Perform approved onsite checks and hardware support for servers, storage, and virtualization equipment. Work with Systems and SCADA teams to resolve connectivity issues affecting operational systems and escalate specialized administration or control changes to the responsible team. 
  • Commissioning and integration. Stage, install, and test IT equipment for new facilities, expansions, and acquisitions. Coordinate site readiness, communications cutovers, vendor work, and handoff to ongoing support under approved designs and change plans. 
  • Incident response and follow-through. Troubleshoot outages remotely and onsite, communicate business impact and progress, and escalate when needed. Participate in the assigned on-call rotation and support planned work outside normal hours. 
  • Documentation and coordination. Keep tickets, equipment inventory, site records, network diagrams, and project updates accurate. Coordinate materials and vendor visits, identify reliability improvements, share knowledge, and follow company safety, security, purchasing, and change procedures. 

 

Required Qualifications 

  • At least three years of relevant experience in IT support, field services, network support, or a comparable technical role. 
  • Practical understanding of TCP/IP, switching, wireless networking, structured cabling, and systematic troubleshooting. 
  • Experience supporting Windows computers, common peripherals, and business applications; ability to use ticketing and documentation tools. 
  • Ability to work independently at remote locations, prioritize work by operational impact, and follow issues through to completion. 
  • Clear communication with technical teams, field personnel, and vendors, including explaining problems and next steps in plain language. 
  • Ability to follow approved designs, protect credentials, use assigned administrative access appropriately, and recognize when an issue needs escalation. 
  • High school diploma or equivalent, with relevant technical education, training, or demonstrated work experience. 
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet company driving requirements. 

 

Preferred Experience 

  • IT support in oil and gas, midstream, manufacturing, or another industrial environment. 
  • Cisco switching and wireless, Meraki equipment, SD-WAN, or comparable network platforms. 
  • Cambium radios, licensed microwave links, cellular routers such as Teltonika, or Starlink connectivity. 
  • APC Smart-UPS systems, remote equipment monitoring, and tools such as SolarWinds. 
  • Windows Server, Active Directory, Hyper-V, VMware, Nutanix, or enterprise storage. 
  • Microsoft Intune, ServiceNow, network-connected printers, and conference room AV. 
  • Supporting connectivity for SCADA, PLCs, HMIs, measurement equipment, or physical security systems in coordination with the system owners. 
  • Relevant certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, Cisco CCNA, or ITIL Foundation. 

 

Experience with comparable technologies is valuable. The specialist is expected to build familiarity with the platforms used in the assigned region. 
 

Work Environment and Expectations 
This is a field-based position with regular travel between offices and operational facilities. Some assignments may require overnight travel, outdoor work, or work in remote locations and communications shelters. The specialist must follow site access requirements, wear required personal protective equipment, and complete applicable safety training. 
 

The work includes installing and moving IT equipment and working around racks and cabling, using appropriate assistance and equipment. On-call coverage and scheduled maintenance may require evening or weekend availability. The assigned office, travel expectations, and on-call schedule will be established for the opening.
