Title: Controller
Location: Houston, Texas
Duration: Permanent
Compensation: $170,000 – $180,000
Work Requirements: US Citizen, GC Holders or Authorized to Work in the U.S.
Skillset / Experience:
We are seeking an experienced Controller with a strong background in the construction industry to lead and manage all accounting and financial operations. This role will oversee project-based accounting, ensure accurate financial reporting, and partner with leadership to support strategic decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all accounting functions, including general ledger, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and financial reporting
- Manage job cost accounting, including tracking budgets, actual costs, and project profitability
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Ensure accuracy of WIP (Work-in-Progress) schedules, percentage-of-completion accounting, and revenue recognition
- Lead the budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management processes
- Supervise and mentor accounting staff, improving processes and internal controls
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and industry-specific regulations
- Partner with project managers and operations teams to monitor contract performance and cost variances
- Oversee audits, tax filings, and reporting requirements
- Manage banking relationships, bonding/insurance requirements, and financial risk
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, Finance, or related field highly preferred
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with significant experience in construction accounting
- Strong knowledge of job costing, WIP reporting, and percentage-of-completion accounting
- Experience with construction software (e.g., Sage 300/100, Viewpoint, Foundation, or similar)
- Proven leadership experience managing accounting teams
- Advanced Excel skills and strong financial analysis capabilities
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
